World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades can be used to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it can increase the rarity of an item or mark Level and boost additional stats.
Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats are increased in value. This value is the sum of all of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, depending on the upgrader you choose and the type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be changed in order to upgrade an item.
It is also used to enforce gating requirements when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at an lower level). Players can see their average level of items on their character sheet.
Using the item level can help players evaluate the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a sign of the item's condition and quality. Comparing items from the inventory of a seller is possible using the item's level.
On your PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full description of the item, as well as its level. It can also be located by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are a few theories about how the calculation of the item's level is made. One theory suggests that the item level is determined by an equation that determines how valuable an item's stats really are. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different worth and that sockets have gems that increase the overall value of the item. This can result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is often very close to Blizzard's actual item level.
However, this isn't the only factor which affects an item's ilvl, as the level of the region the item was dropped in could change the value of its stats, for example by adding a level to its crit rating or haste rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have a higher value.
Item Stats
Item stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the best." The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modifications which are then increased by the player's skill.
Upgrades to an item may increase its stats. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices.
Affixes are a different method to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can provide the item additional damage, or add a unique capability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding a special name to the item.
All affixes can be being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade menu and pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and other items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling.
In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However, all items will have at least one stat in the same range, unless it's a unique item or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attachments, or pick which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be done on a per-item level, and the interface for comparing items would not display all the possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the likelihood of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade item s. It provides players with the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is more advantageous in early game runs since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each new level of item. They can also be enhanced by using anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, shields, and armor can spawn or be crafted using the Luck property, which has an initial value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of an item up to 140.
Additionally there are certain items, like the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients.
Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be costly and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade fails.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successful upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased by so much, and the chance that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
The success of an upgrades is also influenced by the luck of that item. Every item has an average success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases that chance by 5%.
The item upgrade overlays are displayed above items in the inventory. This could cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
